Why not use a different verification method, like a mac/IP address?
Hardware and network-based methods simply don't hold up. IP addresses can be masked with a VPN, and hardware IDs can be spoofed, meaning any technical anchor can be bypassed with minimal effort, leaving the door open for banned players to create a new account and return immediately.
The only reliable anchor is real identity. By tying accounts to a verified ID, PlaySafe ID ensures that consequences are meaningful and that circumvention isn't a quick fix.
We also understand that ID verification is a significant step, and it's not for everyone. That's why we've built two things into how PlaySafe ID works from the ground up:
- Your verification data is deleted once your PlaySafe ID is issued, meaning you're fully anonymised from that point forward.
- It's completely optional. There's no requirement to sign up. If you'd rather not, or you don't yet trust what we're doing, that's completely fine. PlaySafe Protected environments are there for players who do want to compete within a fully verified community. Standard matchmaking will always continue to be an option for players who don't.
